International Music Competition

 

Rules

The Maria Teresa Agnesi International Composition Competition is an event that invites composers to present their original musical works. Participants will have the opportunity to have their works performed by professional pianists, receive scholarships and publication opportunities. In addition, the winning pieces will be proposed for performance in music festivals and festivals at an international level.

 

Art. 1 – Objectives of the competition

The Maria Teresa Agnesi International Composition Competition is organized to enhance and promote new original compositions. The 2025 edition is dedicated to compositions for solo piano. The competition aims to discover and give visibility to emerging talents, and not only, in the field of contemporary music.

 

Art. 2 – Participation requirements

The competition is open to all composers of any nationality, without age limits.

Participants are required to present two compositions, provided they are unpublished and not awarded in other competitions, including one piece chosen by the candidate in the form of a Suite or Scherzo plus a free composition.

The maximum duration of the two original songs composed, never performed and never published, is:

 

  • Suite or Scherzo (12′)
  • Free composition (15′)


The scores in digital format and accompanied by an audio recording must be sent to the competition secretariat in PDF format no later than November 7,  2025.

 

Handwritten or manuscript compositions will not be taken into consideration.

 

Art. 3 – Technical specifications 

The compositions must be original and unpublished, composed exclusively for solo piano.   

The score must be sent in PDF format and must be accompanied by an audio or audio/video recording.  

 

Art. 4 – Deadlines
Registrations must be received by October 30, 2025.

The compositions can be sent no later than November 7, 2025.

 

Art. 5 – Registration methods

Two scores must be sent for each of the compositions listed in the announcement (see article 2): one with an indication of the author’s name and surname and title of the piece, the other anonymously only with a motto that distinguishes it.
Link to an audio recording or a simulation of the proposed songs (by November 7, 2025).

At the time of registration (by October  30, 2025)  it is necessary to send the following documents:

• registration form completed and signed in all its fields. 

• curriculum vitae;

• an identity document;

  • Receipt of the registration fee of €150 which can be paid by bank transfer to the current account in the name of New Star aps,
    IBAN IT20F0200801643000106140781 inserting as reason “registration for the composition competition and the name of the participant”.

 
Registration applications can be completed by downloading the forms (at the top of this page or at the bottom).

 

Send the forms together with the bank transfer receipt to composizione@agnesiinternationalcompetition.it

 

IMPORTANT: do not attach any audio files to the email, but only the links.

It must be possible to download the audio via a link, we do not accept files on platforms from which they cannot be downloaded.

Audio files must also be anonymous.

The documentation may be drawn up in Italian, English or French.

Art. 6 – Jury

The jury will be made up of internationally renowned musicians and composers recognized in the contemporary music scene. Evaluation criteria will include originality, creativity and compositional technique.

The jury reserves the right not to reward any of the competing scores and not to nominate finalists, to award ex-aequo prizes and to highlight particularly deserving compositions.
The jury’s decision is unquestionable.

The Italian version of the announcement will prevail.

In the event of disputes, the competent court is that of Milan.

 

Art.7 – Method of implementation

The jury will identify the overall winner of the competition and the winners of the special prizes through an autonomous and anonymous evaluation of each juror, expressed with a vote from 1 to 100.

For each composition the lowest and highest marks will be removed.
For the final phase only one composition per composer can be chosen.

 

Art. 8 – Prizes

The competition includes the following prizes:

  • “Agnesi” Award
         Scholarship worth €1000 (in case of ex aequo the prize will be divided among the winners) and publication of the winning song by Da Vinci                  Publishing, a prestigious music publishing house based in Japan and Italy, specializing in the publication of classical, contemporary and                        educational music. Internationally recognized, it collaborates with high-profile composers, performers and cultural institutions, promoting the              spread of new musical languages ​​and enhancing artistic talent. Editorial quality and care in production make Da Vinci Publishing a point of                  reference for the publication of scores and discographic recordings in the global music scene. Furthermore, performance at the Awards Concert          of the First Edition of the “Maria Teresa International Music Competition” by one of the winners of the first edition of the “Gianni Rugginenti Piano      Competition” (2024) and the possibility of performing the pieces at prestigious international musical events.

 

  • Special Jury Prize 
        Recognition for a composition of particular merit which will imply the possibility of the piece being performed in musical contexts which will be           declared during the Competition.

  • Under 20 Award 
        Scholarship of 200 euros and the possibility of performing the piece in musical areas that will be declared during the Competition.

  • Award for the most innovative song
        Award dedicated to musical experimentation.
        Private coaching session (also online) with Maestro Mario Calisi.

  • Special Award “Best use of piano technique”
        Private coaching session (also online) with Maestro Carlo Balzaretti.

 

  • “Maria Teresa Agnesi” Award for Female Creativity


All participants will be issued a Participation Diploma which will be sent online.

 

  • Professional recording of the winning song
        The winning songs will be recorded in high quality performed by a professional pianist to then be published on the Halidon platform with more            than 4.5 million subscribers to its YouTube channel. The winning piece will be used in the Second Edition of the “Maria Teresa Agnesi International      Music” competition where a special prize will be awarded for its performance.

 

  • The concert, which will be held in October 2026, will be streamed and published on the Halidon Music platform, a music publishing and distribution      house (more than 4.5 million subscribers to its YouTube channel) which will take care of the publication and dissemination of the selected works        through its digital and physical channels. Winning compositions will benefit from the visibility and distribution afforded by Halidon,                                  broadening their reach to an international audience.

The Maria Teresa Agnesi International Composition Competition honors one of the first notable female composers of the 18th century.

Maria Teresa Agnesi made significant contributions to classical music at a time when the role of women was marginalized.

This initiative keeps her innovative spirit alive, offering composers an opportunity to express themselves and contribute to musical evolution.

We are honored to present an exceptional jury, made up of internationally renowned composers, performers and teachers. With experience and sensitivity, they will evaluate the works with an approach open to tradition and innovation, offering participants a unique opportunity to compare with some of the greatest figures in contemporary music.

The competition offers composers an important opportunity for visibility. Among the prizes, the publication of the winning works with the Da Vinci Publishing brand and special prizes that will allow the performance of the compositions in prestigious reviews and festivals, promoting the artistic and professional growth of the participants.
